
Bishop Drafted By NWHL's Connecticut Whale

FAIRFIELD, Conn.- Sacred Heart University Women's Ice Hockey senior Maddie Bishop was drafted into the NWHL (National Women's Hockey League) in the fifth round by the Connecticut Whale.
Bishop becomes the third SHU player in the past two years to be acquired by an NWHL team and the first Pioneer to be drafted by an NWHL team. She joins fellow SHU player Haley Payne on the CT Whale for the upcoming 2020-21 season. Bishop was just one of 30 players to be drafted in the 2020 NWHL draft.
SHU head coach Tom O'Malley stated "I could not be happier for Maddie!! She had an outstanding college hockey career here at Sacred Heart, and helped our team achieve a lot of its success over these last 4 years. Knowing Maddie, she will take her passion, determination, and game to the next level, and be that go to player for the CT Whale!!! I wish her the very best, and look forward to seeing her on the ice as a professional hockey player this upcoming year!!"
Throughout Bishop's career at SHU, she has played a total of 127 games, racking up 33 goals, 58 assists for 91 points. In the team's most recent season, she tallied a career high 11 goals, with 19 assists for 30 points. She was named to All-NEWHA First Team and was named NEWHA Player of the Week twice. She was tied for fourth in NEHWA in assists this season and recorded three game-winning goals for the Pioneers in her final season.
