Pioneers tied for second in the NEC with 2-1 record
FAIRFIELD, Conn. — After a dominate overtime win on Friday, the Sacred Heart University field hockey team lost its steam in a 3-0 loss at Fairfield. SHU falls to 2-1 in the Northeast Conference and 2-9 overall, while FU improves to 3-0 and 7-6 on Sunday.
The Stags took the lead in the second followed by two more in the final quarter.
Goalkeepers Erin Burgess and Samantha Maresca split time in the cage a combined for three saves.
Fairfield outshot the Pioneers 13-3 and took seven corners compared to the visitors three.
The Red & White continue with conference matchups when the travel to Saint Francis on October 15 for a 3 p.m. meeting.
