NEW HAVEN, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University track & field team competed at the Yale Season Opener on Saturday. The Pioneers saw one first-place finish, one school record equaled and three personal bests.
On the men's side,
Owen Nassaney won the high jump for the second meet in a row with a 2.04m leap.
Nazir Hibbert placed third in the event at 1.95m.
Moetiz Shilleh (9:03.63) and
Christopher Gillis (9:38.60) placed second and fifth, respectively, in the 3000m run.
Kevin Martin earned third place in the 1-mile run with a person-best time of 4:25.42.
Other top-five finishes included
Joseph Morrone (2
nd, 34.71) in the 300m dash,
Lance Hayes (2
nd, 1:58.73) in the 800m run,
Ryan Corbett (3
rd, 2:37.58) in the 1000m run,
Hunter Harris (5
th, 11.40m) in the triple jump and
Bryan Bushey (5
th, 8.86) in the 60m hurdles.
On the women's side, Jennifer Pasram tied the school record in the pole vault with a second-place finish at 3.70m. Sydney Abitanto (3
rd, 3.30m), Jenna Engels (4
th, 3.15m) and Hope Handlin (5
th, 3.00m) all placed in the top five.
Two Pioneers also set set personal bests. Molly Kearns threw for 14.45m in the weight throw. Isabella Rogler recorded a 5:17.10 in the 1-mile run.
Kaleigh Jess (2
nd, 9.11), Nicole Szilagyi (3
rd, 9.26) and Kimora Johnson (4
th, 9.47) ran top-5 performances in the 60 meter hurdles.
Four other Pioneers finished in the top-five, including Kaylee Stenderowicz (2
nd, 11.36m) in the triple jump, Megan Schneider (4
th, 2:23.08) in the 800m run, Alexa Kavarsky (4
th, 1:21.29) in the 500m dash, and Abbie Mokwuah (5
th, 12.61m) in the shot put.
Up next, Sacred Heart will compete at the Harvard Multi-Events on Jan. 7, followed by the West Point Open on Jan. 8.
