ATTLEBORO, Mass. — Katie Keenan's third-period goal broke a 2-2 tie in the Sacred Heart University's, 4-2, win against Johnson & Wales on Friday.
On a short-handed opportunity,
Anna Klein drilled in the first goal of the night halfway through the first off the stick of
Nicole Bessinger and
Kelly Solak.
Following her opening period score, the co-captain was set up by
Nicole Guidi and connected with the back of the net seven and a half minutes into the second.
In the first three minutes of the final period, the Wildcats knotted the board at two at 1:39 and 2:42, with the first goal coming off a powerplay.
Katie Keenan took advantage of the short-handed JWU squad with the eventual game-winning goal 13 minutes in the third. Klein and Solak assisted the first-year's rookie-leading four goals for the Pioneers.
Sophie Lupone put the nail in the coffin for the Red & White with help from
Erin Fleming with 20 seconds remaining in the game.
Between the posts,
Frankie Sanchez stopped 16 targets in her fifth win of the season.
SHU returns home to rematch Johnson & Wales at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
