
Women's Fencing Loses Both Rounds at LIU

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Sacred Heart University women's fencing program concluded the season 0-2 on the day against conference rival LIU on Saturday. The Sharks bested the Pioneers 18-9 in round one and 16-12 in the second.
Sophomore Sophie Witek produced a 4-2 victory on the day in the saber, with junior Tia Petrides churning out the same record in the foil.
Round 1:
- The Pioneers dropped 5-4 in the saber versus the Sharks. Witek won two of her three matchups, while first-years Tiffany Kellstrom and Emma Marchetta-Turner each had one point.
- Allyson Stejakoski went 2-0 in SHU's 5-4 foil victory. Petrides also tallied two, followed by one from first-year Chloe Mok.
- The epee squad dropped 9-0 despite two close matches from Grace Hand, going 3-5 in both.
Round 2:
- The victory reversed with LIU going 5-4 in the foil, with two points from Petrides and one from Stejakoski and Chenchen Cui.
- Ashley Cherry, Julie Rocklein and Hand all had one match point in the epee team's 6-3 defeat.
- The saber threesome made the right adjustments to secure a 5-4 victory. Witek and Marchetta-Turner each garnered two points with Emaly Pereira racking up the final tally.
