
Casey Barrett Breaks School Record as Swimming and Diving Sits Second After First Swimming Events At NEC's

CARLISLE, Pa.- A school record broken and additions to the SHU record book was the outcome of day one at the NEC Swimming Championships this afternoon as the Pioneers currently sit in second place with a score of 198 which is five points ahead of Central Connecticut State. The second day of swimming events at the NEC Championships beginning tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
MORNING SESSION (Prelims)
- Kate Bell qualified in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:07.46 to qualify for the finals in eighth place.
- In the 200 IM prelims, junior Nicole Tingley placed fourth in qualifying with a time of 2:08.37. Fellow Pioneer sophomore Casey Barrett also qualified with a time of 2:09.37 to finish seventh in qualifying. Senior Emily Peter was the third Pioneer to qualify as she paced a time of 2:11.40.
- Two Pioneers qualified for the finals in the 50-yard freestyle as Alivia Gibson and Emma McCall each with times of 24.67 and 24.77 respectively.
EVENING SESSION (Finals)
- The Pioneers were able to take fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle relay featuring junior Nicole Tingley, freshman Ella Krikorian, sophomore Alivia Gibson and freshman Emma McCall as the relay group finished with a time of 1:37.55.
- Freshman Kate Bell placed 8th in the 500-yard freestyle final with a time of 5:04.40 which was .04 seconds faster than her prelim time. She now sits third all-time in the 500-yard freestyle event at SHU.
- In the 200 IM finals, the Pioneers fell just short of the podium as sophomore Casey Barrett took fifth with a time of 2:07.42 which was two seconds faster than her prelim event. Her finals time broke the school record previously held by Nicole Tingley (2:07.51).
- Meanwhile junior Nicole Tingley placed sixth with a time of 2:07.91 which was a hair faster than her prelim time of (2:08.37). Senior Emily Peter finished 14th with a time of 2:10.53 which was a little under a second faster than her prelim time. Peter sits fifth all time in the 200 IM.
- In the 50-yard freestyle final, Alivia Gibson placed 12th with a time of 24.65 while Emma McCall placed 14th with a time of 24.74.
- In the 400-yard medley relay, the Pioneers took sixth with a time of 3:59.21 featuring Casey Barrett, Fiona Maxwell, Emily Peter and Nicole Tingley.
