BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — With the hopes of coming back from a 2-1 series loss earlier this season, the Sacred Heart University baseball team has its sights set on snapping Central Connecticut State University's four-game win streak this weekend. The Pioneers will play at home at 3 p.m. on Friday and at 1 p.m. on Sunday, while Saturday's game will be hosted at the Dunkin' Donuts Park in Hartford at 2:30 p.m.
The Red and White are just three games in the win column behind the second-place Blue Devils in the Northeast Conference standings. SHU is currently 12-6 in the league, while CCSU sits at 15-6.
The Blue Devils will have tough time containing Justin Jordan, who is on a hot streak with 11 runs, nine hits, two doubles and six RBIs in the last eight games. In line with Jordan, Isiah Daubon has also lit up the offense with nine runs, a home run, two doubles and six RBIs on 11 hits in the recent games.
The highlight of the Pioneers offense is their ability to get in scoring position. Elijah Brown is ranked 10th in the NCAA with 22 stolen bases. Brown is not the only one with quick feet, the team has stolen 38 bases and nine stemming from Daubon and eight from Joe Emerson.
Austin Markmann is a driving force at the plate with a team-high 34 RBIs and five homers. Markmann creates magic when at bat with 40 hits and 10 doubles, followed by the speed to tally 23 runs.
Chase Jeter, Ryan LaMay and Jake Babuschak will be the weekend opening pitchers for SHU. Jeter leads the team with five wins and a league-low 1.75 ERA against conference foes, including a recent 12-7 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on April 30. LaMay holds two victories under his cap with a 2-0 shutout at Stony Brook and an impressive 13-3 contest against Wagner. Babuschak sealed the series sweep over the Knights on Sunday for his second win of the season and has yet to give up a single home run.
A limited number of digital tickets are available for the game at the Hartford Yard Goats stadium on their website for $10.
After this series, SHU continues its three-game conference matchups at Merrimack, starting May 14 at 3 p.m.
