How It Happened
Sacred Heart struck first in the opening inning as JW Fitzgerald tripled to lead things off before CJ Nolan lifted a sacrifice fly to bring him home and give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead.
Jake Friel answered with a perfect bottom half, retiring the side in order. Canisius tied the game in the second and added another run in the third, though Friel punched out two hitters in the frame to keep Sacred Heart within striking distance.
The Pioneers answered in a big way in the fourth. Daniel Rice and Wilson reached with back-to-back singles before Will Cook blasted a three-run home run to put Sacred Heart back in front, 4-2.
Anakin Underhill added a strikeout in relief in the fourth, and the offense kept rolling in the fifth when Will Rudolph worked a walk before Ronan Donohue connected on a two-run home run to extend the lead to 6-2.
Canisius got one run back in the bottom half, but PJ Rogan slammed the door in the sixth, striking out the side.
Sacred Heart continued to add on late. In the seventh, Ronan Donohue walked and later scored on a Kyle Cincinnati single. The eighth inning brought even more offense as Fitzgerald singled, Nolan launched a two-run home run, and Ronan Donohue followed with a solo shot to push the lead to 10-3.
Rogan stayed dominant, retiring the side in order in both the seventh and eighth innings, before Hector Alejandro recorded a strikeout in the ninth to help close out the 10-5 victory.
