Sacred Heart Comes Up Short Against Monmouth 77-62

Bonner led Pioneers with season-high 18 points
FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team battled with Monmouth for most of Sunday's contest but the Hawks came out on top in the end 77-62.

A Sajada Bonner three-pointer at the beginning of the third quarter prompted a 13-7 run and the Pioneers took a 41-37 edge over the Hawks with 6:48 left. Sacred Heart could not hold onto the lead for long as Monmouth went on a 6-0 run with under two minutes left and ultimately pulled away after outscoring the Pioneers, 25-12 in the fourth quarter.
A free throw from Bonner sparked an 8-0 Sacred Heart run to cut the score to 25-24 with 2:48 left in the second quarter. Monmouth responded with five unanswered points to take back the lead and went into the half up 30-28.
Bonner finished the game with a season-high 18 points. First years Amelia Wood and Ny'Ceara Pryor recorded 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Monmouth's accuracy from behind the three-point line and at the charity stripe was the difference. The visitors shot 50 percent (8-16) from behind the arc and 86.7 percent (13-15) at the line while the Pioneers were 6-20 (30 percent) and 12-21 (57.1) respectively.
