FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After a month on the road, the Sacred Heart University women's wrestling team competed for the first time at home on Sunday. The No. 11 Pioneers rolled past #19 Tiffin, 43-5, then topped Western New England, 45-5.
With the two wins, Sacred Heart improved to 8-2 in dual meets.
Tiffin's lone win came at 109 pounds but from there it was all Sacred Heart. At 116 pounds, Nohea Moniz only needed 23 seconds to pin Leach Parker. That was the same amount of time seventh-ranked Alexandra Fitzgerald needed to pin Michal Buska at 130 pounds.
Producing a fall in 1:05 was Tays Pascual at 136 pounds over Tatiana Bermudez. Sacred Heart wrapped up the meet with a pair of second period falls when #8 Madison Sandquist took down Sidney Ramos in 3:28 at 155 pounds. Jacklyn Smith followed at 170 pounds with a pin at 4:27 over Erin Martin.
Facing a first-year WNEU program, SHU was out to a 15-0 lead after two forfeits and another Moniz pin. Fitzgerald also came through with her second pin, topping Sabrina Sabor in 2:06. The Golden Bears forfeited the final four bouts.
The Pioneers are on the road December 17 to take on #16 New Jersey City University.
