Sacred Heart Finishes Weekend at UConn Northeast Challenge

Mokwuah finishes fifth in the shot put

STORRS, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University men's and women's track & field teams concluded day two of the University of Connecticut Northeast Challenge on Saturday.

The women tied for 10th out of 19 teams while men tied for 16th out of 21 teams. 
 
For the women, Abbie Mokwuah earned fifth with a 12.89m throw in the shot put. Nicole Szilagyi set a new PR in the 100m hurdles on a time of 14.59 to finish sixth. Kelly Parker placed eighth in the 5000m at 18:53.06.
 
Madeline Archangelo notched eighth overall in the heptathlon with 4,059 points. Her best performance came in the javelin when she threw for 31.21m claimed second. Archangelo rounded out the remaining events with eighth in the 800m (2:43.26) and ninth in the long jump (4.96m).
 
On the men's side, Daniel DiGangi recorded a 4.37m leap to finish eighth in the pole vault. Joseph Morrone crossed the finish line in ninth on a time of 15.06 in the 110m hurdles.
 
Benjamin Healy registered 13th in the decathlon with 5,241 points. The junior ran a time of 4:53.75 in the 1500m to notch seventh. Healy also recorded 11th in the javelin throw (39.25m), 12th in the 110m hurdles (16.38) and 15th in the discus throw (20.99m).
 
Up next, Sacred Heart competes at the Rider Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 23, at 11 a.m.
