Track & Field Completes Day One of NEC Outdoor Championship

Six Pioneers score team points

EMMITSBURG, Md.— The Sacred Heart University men's and women's track and field teams competed on day one of the Northeast Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday.
 
The women currently stand in ninth with 15.5 points while the men are tenth with four points.
 
Kaylee Stenderowicz (5.24m) and Madeline Archangelo (5.10m) took the top spots for the Pioneers as they both earned fourth and fifth in the long jump. Both combined for nine team points in the event. Sarah Lamoreaux earned eighth in the high jump at 1.49m for half of the team points. Samantha Curran (8th, 11.50m), Sarah Mitchell (8th, 11.45m) and Abbie Mokwuah (10th, 11.32m) placed in the top 10 in the shot put. Curran and Mitchell added three points for the Pioneers. Mitchell also notched ninth at 34.09m in the discus throw.
 
Four Pioneers clinched spots in the finals in three running events. Nicole Szilagyi crossed the finish line in third at 15.20 in the prelims for the 100m hurdles. Angela Kaiser (5:01.45) and Jessica Pigott (5:06.40) finished fifth and eighth in the 1500m. Megan Schneider ran a time of 2:24.44 to place eighth in the 800m.
 
Daniel DiGangi cleared a height of 4.30m for seventh in the pole vault and registered two points for Sacred Heart.
 
Pioneers continue competition at the NEC Championships on Sunday.
