Pioneer mat boss will represent EIWA.
MANHEIM, Pa. – Sacred Heart University men's wrestling head coach John Clark has been named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Leadership Group. Going into his sixth season at the helm of the SHU program, Clark was elected to the position in a vote of his peers in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association.
Serving as the EIWA representative, Clark is one of only eight coaches on the Leadership Council. The appointment is for three years and eligible for renewal after the initial term.
"This is a tremendous honor, as I tell the student-athletes on our team all the time that it's so important to have respect from your peers," Clark said. "This role was voted on by the other 16 coaches within the EIWA. I currently serving as the EIWA President and I look to continue to serve this great conference in an expanded role now."
The mission of the NWCA DI Leadership Group is to provide the coaches from each conference with a voice, at the Association level, that will improve the communication among members and their national organizations. As part of his responsibilities, Clark will be the EIWA's liaison to the NWCA while communicating between the two groups any issues that arise, or decisions made by the Leadership Group.
Under Clark's direction, the Pioneers continue to show improvement on the mat and in the classroom. Last year Joe Accousti and Nick Palumbo qualified for the NCAA Championships. SHU had a 3.42 team grade point average this year, ranking it 16th in the country, just ahead of Cornell.
