FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team opens 2023 with its first Northeast Conference game of the season against LIU on Friday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on NEC Front Row with Randy Brochu on the call.OPENING TIP
- This marks the 46th meeting between Sacred Heart and LIU. The Pioneers hold a 16-6 advantage in the series at home.
- Last season, both teams split the series. The first contest was deemed a forfeit due to COVID protocols within the Sharks program. LIU won Game 2 50-46. Kelsey Wood had eight points and five rebounds in the contest.
- Sacred Heart leads the NEC in combined rebounds with 36.0 per game and is second in offensive rebounds with 11.6 per game.
- Ny'Ceara Pryor is a five-time NEC Rookie of the Week honoree. The guard leads Sacred Heart with 16.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.1 steals per game in her inaugural college season. Pryor is the leader in the NEC with 49 steals and 4.1 steals per game. In national ranks, she currently leads in steals per game and is fourth in total steals.
- Carly Stroemel leads the NEC in blocks per game (1.5) and total blocks (18). The senior is nationally ranked 69th in blocks per game and 91st in total blocks.
- The Pioneers were picked to finish sixth in the NEC Preseason Poll.
