Pioneers Compete at West Point Open

Sacred Heart had two, first-place finishes on the day

WEST POINT, N.Y.— The Sacred Heart University men's track and field team competed in the Army West Point Open over the weekend.

Joseph Morrone and Jordan Leon both had first-place finishes to lead the Pioneers. Morrone was first in the 400 meters at 50.19, while Leon was first in the 1000 meters at 2:39.05.

Sacred Heart claimed the top five spots in the 1000 meters, with Leon in first, Lance Hayes was second at 2:20.95, Shane Negast was third at 2:45.68, Kevin Martin in fourth at 2:47.61, and Patrick Curreri in fifth at 2:48.52. 

Along with Morrone's first-place finish in the 400 meters, Rafael Mahario finished in the top three of the event in third place with a time of 50.95. 

Dominic Miele had a third-place finish in the 500 meters, clocking a time of 1:11.37. 

The 4x400 relay of Morrone, Hayes, Mahario, and Miele, had a third-place finish at 3:25.57.

Cameron Croce and Daniel Blatman were third and fourth, respectively in the weight throw. Croce had a throw of 16.03m, and Blatman's throw was 15.41.

Aidan Glennon took fifth place in the shot put at 14.74m. 

Roberto DaCosta finished sixth overall in the 60 meters at 7.19. Trevor Middleton also had a sixth-place finish in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:20.65.

Jonathan Mahon finished eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.76.
Sacred Heart is back in action next Saturday, January 14, at the Lehigh University Angry Birds Challenge.
