Pios enter 2023-24 after winning back-to-back NEC Championships
NTCA Release
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After winning its second consecutive Northeast Conference Championship in 2023, the Sacred Heart University bowling team was ranked 17th in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) 2023-24 Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by the organization Sunday.
In addition to claiming its second straight NEC crown, the Pioneers' impressive 2022-23 campaign included making their ninth NCAA Tournament appearance, defeating Medaille in an elimination match before going 1-2 on day two against North Carolina A&T, who are ranked fourth in this year's poll.
SHU returns 14 bowlers from last season's roster, highlighted by senior Hannah Manetta, who earned NTCA All-Region and All-NEC accolades the previous year. Junior Rachel Glowniak also returns for the Pios after her dominant performance in the NEC Championship earned her Tournament MVP honors. Sacred Heart also brings back sophomore Megan Prettyman after she was named to the 2022-23 NEC All-Rookie Team.
In addition to their impressive list of returners, the Pios added four talented newcomers who look primed to make a difference this season. SHU's list of first years includes Chelsea Perez, Emma Jones, Karleigh LeMond and Madilyn Yockel.
Today's poll featured a stellar showing from the NEC, as four of the conference's programs are ranked in the top 25. In addition to Sacred Heart, Duquesne is 11th, FDU is 15th and Merrimack is 24th.
