SHU Ranks Sixth After Day One of New England Championships

Croce earns a bronze and Blatman PRs to highlight day one for Pioneers
BOSTON – The Sacred Heart University men's track and field team sits in sixth place through day one at the New England Championships, hosted by the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) at the TRACK at New Balance.
The Pioneers accumulated six points through the four scored events on day one to finish tied with Bryant University for sixth place. The University of Rhode Island paces everyone early on with 67 points.
Cameron Croce led the Pioneers through the first day by earning six points in the weight throw. The graduate senior from Hope, R.I., tallied a toss of 17.91m to finish in third place.
Benjamin Healy also got off to a good start today, as he sits in third place through the first four events of the heptathlon. The senior owns 2,043 points after day one by placing first in the long jump (6.53m) and third in both the 60-meter dash (7.24) and the shot put (10.90m).
Daniel Blatman joined Croce with a stellar showing in the weight throw, placing 10th after recording a personal-record toss of 16.46m.
The Pioneers return for day two of the New England Championships tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
