Pioneers Compete at EIWA Championships

Five SHU wrestlers posted wins today
PHILADELPHIA – The Sacred Heart University men's wrestling team earned five victories and 7.5 points on day one of the EIWA Championships, hosted by Penn at the Palestra.
After day one, the Pioneers are tied in 15th place with Brown, just eight points behind Franklin & Marshall in 14th. Defending champion Cornell leads the event after day one with 82.5 points.
Highlighting SHU's wins today was Nick Palumbo's round-of-16 victory over Ty Whalen of Princeton, a pin in 6:15. Unfortunately, the grad student fell to No. 2 Josh Humphreys of Lehigh before suffering a 5-4 decision to Jack Nies of American in the second consolation round.
Ryan Bolletino was the second Pio to win his opening match, as he bested LIU's Anthony Franden with a 3-0 decision to move into the round of 16. He then faced No. 1 Chris Foca of Cornell in the next round, suffering a loss.
Andrew Fallon also recorded a solid outing today, dropping a hard-fought 3-0 decision to No. 3 Kurtis Phipps of Bucknell in his opener. He bounced back by defeating Harvard's Dante Frinzi with a 9-6 decision in his first consolation match. A 2-1 loss to No. 8 Hunter Adrian of Brown ended Fallon's day in the next round.
The duo of Vincent Milazzo and Owen Ayotte also earned wins today in the consolation round of 16. Milazzo handed Ian Oswalt of Brown an 11-7 setback at 141 pounds, while Ayotte advanced past Brown's James Araneo following a medical forfeit.
Also taking part in today's event were Mike Manta (125), Mike McGhee (149), Aidan Zarrella (165), Logan Michael (197), and Marc Berisha (285). Unfortunately, this group was unable to walk away with a win.
Day two of the EIWA Championships are slated to begin tomorrow at 10:15 a.m.
