
SHU Claims Two Victories at Yale Springtime Invite

Stenderowicz took first in the triple jump, while Mokwuah won the shot put
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's track and field team earned wins from Kaylee Stenderowicz and Abbie Mokwuah to highlight their day at the 2023 Yale Springtime Invite on Sunday afternoon at the Dewitt Cuyler Complex in New Haven, Conn.
Stenderowicz finished the afternoon with a stellar performance, taking the win in the triple jump (11.76m) and finishing second in the long jump (5.45m). The senior picked up her first win of the outdoor campaign.
Mokwuah was also fantastic, finishing the day with two top-four showings. The graduate student won the shot put with a throw of 12.83m before taking fourth in the discus with a mark of 31.57m. Mokwuah has won the shot put in each of her last four meets.
First year Zaida Witkowski finished right behind Mokwuah in the shot put, placing second in the event with a throw of 9.81m. She also took fifth in the discus with a mark of 28.59m, just edging teammate Madeline Rivard (27.23m) in sixth after she set a new personal record. Rivard (29.75m) also placed seventh in the hammer throw.
The Pioneers had competitors tie for fourth place in both the high jump and the pole vault this afternoon. Madeline Archangelo and Ava Coscia (1.51m) finished tied in the high jump, while Jennifer Pasram and Jenna Engels (3.35m) were knotted in the pole vault.
Nicole Szilagyi tallied SHU's final top-five finish in the 100m hurdles. The graduate student clocked a time of 14.94 to take fifth.
The Pios also saw Jessica Pigott, Erin Dunn, Kylie Terkildsen, and Megan Schneider post stellar outings today. Pigott clocked a time of 4:58.49 in the 1,500 meters to place seventh. Dunn (3.05m) and Terkildsen (2.90m) both set PRs in the pole vault to place eighth and ninth, respectively. Finally, Schneider placed ninth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:26.54.
Today served as the Pios' final tune-up before the 2023 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday and Sunday, May 6-7, at Duane Stadium in North Andover, Mass.
