Track and Field Concludes Day One of MAAC Championships

Day two begins tomorrow morning

Emmitsburg, MD. – Sacred Heart University's women's track and field team completed day one of the MAAC Championships after a full day of competition, with events beginning at 11:00 a.m. and running until 7:00 p.m.

The scoring for the Pioneers got started in the hammer throw event, as it was Caroline Herlihy who earned a podium finish after placing third overall. Herlihy recorded a mark of 47.33m, good for six points for the Pios. Right behind her was Suzan Adekunle, who finished fourth overall with a mark of 46.62m. Together, Herlihy and Adekunle combined to score 11 points for the Pios.

Sierra Thompson earned the second podium finish of the day for the Pioneers in the long jump event. Thompson placed third overall after recording a jump of 5.77m, earning an additional five points for Sacred Heart.

Altogether, the Pios scored 24 points on the day. With a plethora of runners qualifying for tomorrow's finals, the Pioneers will look to add to their total on day two of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships.
