
Bourgeois Grabs Pentathlon Bronze at Brant Tolsma Invitational

Graduate student nabs two career-bests during meet
LYNCHBURG, Va. — Lea Bourgeois' overall third-place finish highlighted a successful day for the Sacred Heart University women's track and field pentathletes at the Brant Tolsma Invitational hosted by Liberty University, on Thursday afternoon.
Bourgeois nabbed SHU's highest total score of the meet, finishing third-place in Section 2 with a combined score of 3357, just eight points below her highest-collegiate score. The Rochester, Mass., native earned a career-best in both the shot put and 800m, setting a mark of 10.07m in the throwing section before finishing the meet with a blazing time of 2:32.8 in the 800m. Bourgeois also tied her career-best in the high jump after clearing a mark of 1.58m to give SHU its highest overall finish of the day.
In Section I, three Pios had strong showings including two pentathlon debuts from first-year athletes Diamani Canuto and Ariyana Jackson. Alongside Canuto and Jackson, first year Kayleigh Troy earned a career-best in her second-ever pentathlon, finishing in 11th place with a score of 2513. Troy tied her personal-best in the 60m hurdles, finishing in 10.24 seconds while placing fifth in the section in high jump.
Jackson and Canuto both earned personal-bests in multiple events after competing in their first-ever pentathlons. Jackson placed seventh overall in Section I, finishing with a combined score of 2864. Her mark of 11.72m in the shot put earned her the event win while her mark of 4.62m in the long jump set a new personal best. Canuto, on the other hand, also finished with personal-bests in the shot put and long jump events, setting a mark of 8.11m in the throwing portion before clearing 4.73m in long jump. Canuto grabbed two third-place finishes in both the 800m and high jump en route to a third-place finish in Section 1.
