DeStephanis grabs first regional qualification of season

YEPHANK, N.Y. — Kayla DeStephanis grabbed the first individual regional qualification of the new season for the Sacred Heart University equestrian team as the defending Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) Reserve National Champions claimed Reserve High Point Team honors during Saturday's show hosted by St. Joseph's University-Long Island.

Three Pioneers grabbed event wins during the show, headlined by Kylie Hwalek's first place showing in Section B of Open Fences. Hwalek was joined by DeStephanis, who took the event win in Section A of Limit Fences, and Morgan McCrave, who grabbed first in Introductory Section C, as the trio of Pios who grabbed event wins on Saturday.

Emily Belies and Erin Phillips also had top performances on Saturday as the Pios took multiple top-three placements in Fences. Belies grabbed second in Section C of Limit Fences while Phillips took second in Intermediate Fences. In Flats, Norah Jackson grabbed second in Section B Limit Flat while Isabella Schupler took second in Section C. Reagan Waggoner was the last top-three finisher in the Flat, taking second in Section B Intermediate. Amanda Cosentino also had a strong show on Saturday, grabbing second in Novice Section A.
