Women's Soccer Grabs Six CSC Academic All-District Honors

Pios recognized for achievements in classroom and on the pitch
FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Posting high honors on and off the field, Sacred Heart Univeristy women's soccer players Kyran Thievon, Connie Herrera, Kelly Medeiros, Theanna Burnett, Morgan Bovardi, and Miriam Shomstein have grabbed College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, as announced Tuesday.
Thievon grabs her first CSC award after having a solid sophomore campaign for the Pios, grabbing a career-high four shutouts this season en route to a 3-6-3 record. Thievon, who earned MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors on October 7, set a new career-high in single game saves in the 2-1 win over Fairfield and established a career-long shutout streak of 359:13 of game action. In the classroom, she holds a 3.97 GPA while pursuing a degree in Exercise Science.
Herrera established herself as a staple on the SHU defense this season, making 17 appearances and 14 starts in her senior season. She finished fifth on the team in total minutes played behind three players who started all 19 games. Herrera has grabbed a 3.71 GPA while studying Political Science.
Medeiros grabs her second CSC Academic All-District Award after having appeared on last season's list as well. Medeiros played in every match during her four-year tenure at SHU, grabbing two goals this season including the lone goal in a 1-1 draw in the final match of the regular season that put SHU into the MAAC postseason. She will graduate with a 3.70 GPA in Health Science specializing in Dietetics and Nutrition.
Having been one of three Pios to start every match this season, Burnett grabs her first CSC honor of her career after a strong season along the SHU backline. Burnett led the program in minutes played with 1680 and helped SHU earn four shutouts during the season. She currently holds a 3.50 GPA while studying Criminal Justice.
Bovardi grabs her second-consecutive CSC Academic honor of her career after a strong junior year. She finished tied for second on the team in points with five on the campaign. She capitalized for two goals this season including the tally that gave Grace O'Hara the program record in points in the 2-1 loss to Yale. Bovardi started every match for the Pios this season and third on the team in minutes played while holding a 3.65 GPA in Sport Management.
Miriam Shomstein earns her first CSC Academic nod after an impressive year in the midfield for the Pios. Having appeared in every match during the 2024 campaign, she tallied her first collegiate goal off a free kick in SHU's first-ever win over Fairfield, slotting home the game-winner as the Pios held on for a 2-1 upset win. Shomstein graduates with a 3.78 GPA toward a degree in Exercise Science.
