Field Hockey’s Maresca Named to NFHCA Senior Team

Goalkeeper only NEC honoree
MANAHAWKIN, N.J. (November 21, 2024) – Senior goalkeeper Samantha Maresca (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) of the Sacred Heart University field hockey team has been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Senior Team, as announced on Thursday by the NFHCA. Maresca was the only Northeast Conference honoree among the 38 Senior Team selections.
Maresca capped her collegiate career with her strongest statistical season yet. While playing 17 of the team's 18 games, she stopped 91 of 122 shots on her goal, to post a .746 save percentage and a 1.75 goals-against average, both of which were career bests. Maresca had one shutout and logged 1061:46 between the pipes.
Maresca helped lead a defense which finished third in the NEC in scoring defense, averaging just 1.83 goals against per game. She finished third in the NEC in save percentage.
Over the course of her career, Maresca appeared in 68 games for the Pioneers, and totaled 3491:03 in net. She finished her career with 349 saves, a .691 save percentage, a 2.68 goals-against average and five shutouts. Maresca was named to the NEC Championship All-Tournament Team in 2023, after backstopping SHU to its second league title.
Maresca is the first SHU player to earn NFHCA Senior Team honors since fellow goalkeeper Hailey Power in 2020-21.
SHU finished 6-12 (2-6 NEC) and seventh in the league.
