Belluomo lands on First Team
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (November 26, 2024) – Junior David Belluomo of the Sacred Heart University men's fencing team went 12-3 in the foil over the weekend, to earn All-Conference First Team honors, as the Pioneers competed at the NFC Championship, hosted by Brown. Belluomo led five SHU athletes who earned All-Conference honors.
The other four Pios to earn awards all landed on the All-NFC second team. Sophomore Chaissen Costello (Tiverton, R.I.) and senior Jacob Bartel (La Mesa, Calif.) were honored in the foil, sophomore Damian Nguyen earned the honor in the epee, and first year Oliver Lindholm (Atlanta, Ga.) picked up accolades in the sabre.
The NFC awards All-Conference laurels to the top six finishers in each event at the meet. The top three finishers land on the First Team, while the next three take Second Team plaudits.
Belluomo's 12-3 record was good for third in the foil, and he was followed by Costello (11-4) in fourth and Bartel (10-5) in sixth. Nguyen went 8-7 to take sixth in the epee, while Lindholm was 9-4 to finish fourth in the sabre.
As a team, SHU went 2-7 at the event, with a 23-4 win over Wheaton (Mass.) and an 18-9 victory over Wagner.
SHU is back in action on Dec. 8 at the Tradition Meet, hosted by Vassar in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
