Field Hockey’s Brayford Picks Up NFHCA All-Region Accolades

MANAHAWKIN, N.J. (December 4, 2024) – Junior back Emma Brayford (Breiningsville, Pa.) of the Sacred Heart University field hockey team has been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Mideast Region Second Team, as announced on Wednesday by the NFHCA. It is the second straight season the Pioneers have had an All-Region selection, as Isabelle Chamberlain also landed on the Second Team in 2023.

Brayford was a key cog in a SHU defensive unit which finished tied for third in the Northeast Conference in goals-against average (1.83), and her three defensive saves put her tied for third in the league. She missed the start of the year due to injury, but made 13 appearances for the Pios, including nine starts. Also a part of the team's attack penalty corner unit, Brayford finished as SHU's leading scorer, with nine points on three goals and three assists. The three goals tied for the team lead as well.

Brayford was one of five NEC field hockey players to earn All-Region accolades from the NFHCA.

SHU finished 6-12 (2-6 NEC) and seventh in the league.
