McCann secures the Pio's goal

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team defeated America East opponent, NJIT, Tuesday night 1-0. Sam McCann secured the goal for the Pioneers.

Top Performers:
Sam McCann: 1 goal, 4 shots, 3 shots on goal
Alex Almuzara: 1 assist, 3 shots, 2 shots on goal
Eli Stein: 2 shots, 2 shots on goal

Of Note:
The Pioneers came out pressuring Highlanders in the first half, out-shooting them 13-to-6 and 4-to-2 on goal. With the pressure came physicality, as the Pios racked up nine fouls to NJIT's five.

McCann put the Pios on the board first, securing the lone goal, in the 62^nd minute. He scored on Alex Almuzara's deflected shot, finding the top left of the cage from the middle of the box.

As a result of a red card, the Pios played a man down for the last 12 minutes of the game. Despite the disadvantage, SHU held its own against the Highlanders, securing the shutout win.

NJIT's keeper Devin Armstrong put up a strong fight against the Pios as he secured seven saves.

SHU keeper Andrew Hammersley secured his second shutout of the season making two saves.
