Pioneers score a program-high 10 goals in NEC win
NEW HAVEN, CONN. – The Sacred Heart University field hockey team delivered a historic performance on Friday afternoon, exploding for a program-record 10 goals in a commanding 10-2 victory over Merrimack College at Johnson Field in NEC action.

Of Note:
Bridget McLaughlin got the Pioneers on the board in the second minute off a great pass from Ines Braithwaite. Celia Benson followed her in the 8th minute when she scored off a McLaughlin pass to make it 2-0 Pios.
Braithwaite added a goal of her own in the 18th minute with Benson getting the assist to give the home team a commanding 3-0 lead. They were not done from there. In the 21st minute, Lizzie Mendrzycki added her first goal of the game to extend the lead to four. In the 23rd minute, Cassie Chapjian scored her first career goal to give the Pios a five goal lead going into halftime.
In the second half, it was more of the same as Hailey Vogt extended the lead to six. Merrimack's Ciara Ryan got the Warriors on the board while Benson added another goal to make it 7-1 at the final intermission. In the fourth, SHU added three more goals from Cate McConaghy, Chapjian and Holly DeAngelo to seal the historic record-setting victory.

Sacred Heart will visit Providence on Sunday, October 12 in non-conference action at Lennon Family Field at noon.
