Fairfield, Conn – The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team opened New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) play on Friday night, falling 4–2 to Franklin Pierce University at Martire Family Arena.

How it Happened:
- Sacred Heart struck first midway through the opening period when junior Grayson Limke netted her first goal of the season on the power play, set up by Ella Holm, to give the Pioneers an early 1–0 lead.
- Franklin Pierce answered late in the frame to even the score, then tacked on two goals in the second period to pull ahead 3–1. The Pioneers battled back in the third. Holm capitalized on another power play just 3:36 into the period, finishing off a feed from Kailey Smith to cut the deficit to one.
- Sacred Heart dominated play down the stretch, outshooting the Ravens 20–5 in the final frame and peppering the net with quality chances. Isabella Chaput led the offensive push with a team-high seven shots, but Franklin Pierce held firm and added an empty-net goal in the closing minutes to seal the win.
- The Pioneers went 2-for-4 on the power play, their best special-teams performance of the season.
- SHU fired a season-high 32 shots on goal, including 20 in the third period alone.
- Olivia LaRoche and Chaput combined for seven blocked shots to anchor the defensive effort.
