D’Amore, Kovalchik and Foster named to Preseason All-MAAC Team
EDISON, N.J. – The Sacred Heart University baseball team was selected third in its first ever appearance in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Poll on Wednesday. Dante D'Amore, Zack Kovalchik and Elijah Foster were all named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
D'Amore was picked as Preseason All-MAAC at first base. Last season, D'Amore played 39 games, starting 36. The Southington, Conn., native hit .324 with 46 hits, 11 homeruns, 47 RBIs and an on base percentage of .426. At the bag, the senior secured a fielding percentage of .985 with 260 putouts.
In the outfield, Kovalchik earned Preseason All-MAAC recognition. The senior was awarded Northeast Conference (NEC) Scholar Athlete of the Year, All-NEC First Team, CSC Academic All-America Third Team, CSC Academic All-District, NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll, and NEC Academic Honor Roll accolades last season. The Archbald, Pa., native played in every game, hitting .315 while tallying 70 hits, 47 runs, 13 doubles, nine home runs, and 49 RBI's. In the field, Kovalchik secured 134 putouts with a fielding percentage of .985.
Foster represents SHU on the mound in today's poll. The sophomore secured a 4.35 ERA in his debut season for the Pioneers. Foster started 15 games, tossing 59.2 innings and securing five wins and just one loss.
The Pioneers are entering a new era of SHU baseball as they head into the MAAC for the 2025 season. There are high expectations as the Pios are coming off a not only winning regular season, but were also the NEC regular season champs. The Pios ultimately fell to LIU in the final of the NEC Championship Tournament in May.
SHU heads down to the University of South Carolina to open its season with a three-game series, beginning on Friday, February 14th, at 4:00 p.m.
