FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The final weekend of the regular season has arrived for the Sacred Heart women's hockey team, and the Pioneers have already secured home ice for the NEWHA quarterfinals starting on Feb. 28. There is still, however, quite a bit on the line for SHU, which plays a home-and-home series with Post. The teams meet at Martire Family Arena on Friday at 7 p.m. and then play on Saturday at 1:15 p.m. at the Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton.
The Pioneers (16-13-3, 15-8-3 NEWHA) enter the final two games in second place with 48 points but could finish anywhere from first to fourth. Sacred Heart trails first-place LIU (52) by four points and is three points ahead of Franklin Pierce and Stonehill, who are tied for third place with 45 points apiece.
Saint Anselm (40 points), Post (33 points), Assumption (33 points) and Saint Michael's (16 points) round out the eight-team standings.
