Women’s Hockey Falls to Saint Michael’s 3-1

Pioneers outshoot Purple Knights 37-21

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Saint Michael's didn't have a lot of scoring opportunities Friday at Martire Family Arena, but the Purple Knights sure made the most of the ones they did have. SMC scored once in the second period and then got the first two goals of the third on the way to a 3-1 victory over the Pioneers.

Brianna Morden scored for Sacred Heart midway through the third, and the Pioneers applied consistent pressure in the final minutes but couldn't break through again.

• The Purple Knights' second goal came on the power play at 2:03 of the third period. Five minutes later, SMC scored again. Both goals came off the stick of Jodie Gratton.

• The Pioneers' goal at 11:55 of the third came off a faceoff. Bria Holm won the draw back to the point to Morden, who fired a wrist shot over the shoulder of Saint Michael's goaltender Jordana DeMarinis. The goal was the second of the season for Morden.

Lauren Larson finished with 18 saves in goal for the Pioneers.

• Sacred Heart was 0-for-4 on the power play.
