FAIRFIELD, Conn. - It was a very successful season on the ice for the Sacred Heart women's hockey team. The Pioneers won 21 games, the most since 2019-20, captured the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Tournament title for the second time and advanced to the NCAA Regional Semifinal, the first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history.  
 
SHU also excelled in the classroom. Thirty-one members of the championship team have earned NEWHA All-Academic honors. 
 
In addition, three Pioneers – Julianna Koman, Olivia LaRoche and Carly Greene – were among 19 selected as Student-Athletes of the Year, which is awarded to the student-athletes who maintained a 4.0 grade point average. 
 
Paige McNeil is one of five student-athletes to be named to the All-Academic team for the fifth time, while Greene, Katie Keenan, Nicole Bessinger, Kerryn O'Connell and Anastasia Sloan are four-time selections. 
 
To be eligible for the NEWHA All-Academic team, student-athletes must have achieved at least a 3.0 GPA in both the first and second semesters. 
 
Sacred Heart led the way with 31 selections followed by LIU with 27.
