ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Amelia Wood highlighted the Sacred Heart University women's basketball team's recognition in the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning a spot on the Preseason All-MAAC Third Team at the league's Media Day on Tuesday in Atlantic City, N.J.
Wood heads into her senior season as a team leader after a stellar junior campaign in 2024-25. In the team's first campaign in the MAAC, the Wynantskill, N.Y., native led the Pios in blocks with 0.7 per game, while ranking second in points (9.4) and steals per game (1.6). She scored 10+ points in 11 contests, including a season-best 20 against Quinnipiac on Dec. 21.
Wood adds today's honor to being named Third Team All-Northeast Conference (NEC) after her sophomore season in 2023-24 and being tabbed to the 2022-23 NEC All-Rookie Team in 2022-23.
As a team, SHU was slotted 12th in their second MAAC season. Back-to-back MAAC Champions Fairfield swept the poll with all 13 first-place votes for 169 points. Fellow Nutmeg State program Quinnipiac took second in the rankings with 155 points.
The Pioneers open the 2025-26 campaign at home at the William H. Pitt Center with a 7 p.m. bout against NJIT on Monday, Nov. 3.
