
Morales Sweeps in Saber to Lead Pioneers at Yale

New Haven, Conn. – In its lone bout of the weekend, the Sacred Heart men's fencing team dropped an 18-9 decision to in-state rival Yale University on Saturday at Payne Whitney Gymnasium.
The Pioneers nine points came split across the Saber (5 points) and Foil (4 points) disciplines. In Saber it was Jonathan Morales leading the way winning all three of his bouts by 5-3, 5-2 and 5-2 decisions, going undefeated against the No. 10 ranked Bulldogs. Tolga Aslan added the remaining two points with victories in his first bout, 5-3 vs Aydan Lee, and his third bout, 5-2 over Jack Pan.
In Foil, it was Alex Ligos leading the way with wins in his second and third bouts, defeating Matt Cheng and Yonjae Kim by identical 5-4 decisions. Chaissen Costello and David Belluomo each earned a single point for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers will take the next three weeks to train in anticipation of the New England Championships which are slated for the weekend of February 21-22.
