Track and Field Complete Day One of MAAC Championships

Both teams had a successful first day
New York, N.Y. -- Both Sacred Heart University track and field teams turned in a great day one at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championships. The men's team earned 51 points, and the women's team earned 39.
On the men's side, their best event was the weight throw event. They earned a total of 27 points with Tyler Durang leading the way. Durang claimed the event win after earning a mark of 17.41m. Close behind was Joshua Wood, who finished second with a mark of 16.96m.
The weight throw event on the women's side also led the way. Suzan Adekunle finished first with a mark of 17.65m. Closely behind in third was Caroline Herlihy, who finished with a throw of 16.24m. Together, they combined for 16 total points.
Lauryn Piccirelli led the way for the Pioneers in the high jump event. She won the event and earned ten points after jumping at a mark of 1.70m.
Francisco Amore earned a third-place finish in the pole vault event. He earned six points after clearing a mark of 4.73m.
The Pioneers will compete in day two of the MAAC championships tomorrow. Start time is 12:00 PM.
