Pioneers’ MAAC-nificent Effort Secures First Conference Win

TRUMBULL, CONN. – The Sacred Heart women's tennis team earned a 4–0 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday evening at the Tennis Club of Trumbull, securing its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) win of the season.
The match was played to clinch, with remaining courts halted once the Pioneers secured the fourth point.
Sacred Heart claimed the doubles point to open the match. The duo of Ola Irla Bartyzel and Olivia Zuba earned a 6–3 win over Pescatore and Tang. After Mount St. Mary's took the third doubles match to even the doubles at 1-1, sophomore Malena Del Olmo and freshman Ava Nelson secured the point with a tiebreak victory over Perkins and Bartlin 7-6 (8-6).
In singles competition, the Pioneers quickly extended their advantage.
Nelson followed with a commanding 6–0, 6–2 victory over Perkins at No. 2 followed by Bartyzel capturing a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, defeating Tang 6–1, 7–6. Savita Bagirathan clinched the match at No. 3 singles, rebounding from a first-set loss to defeat Tsakiri 4–6, 6–2, 6–2.
The win moves Sacred Heart to 4–4 overall and 1–0 in MAAC play as they will face Saginaw Valley State to open their Spring Break trip in Orlando, Florida.
