How it Happened:
- The Pioneers entered the game riding the momentum of a four-game winning streak and showed that confidence early. Heger found the back of the net to give the Pios an early lead, setting the tone for the rest of the period. Sacred Heart controlled play throughout the frame, recording 12 total shots, with 10 on goal. Petruno was strong in net, making nine saves to preserve the lead and send the Pioneers into the second period with a 1–0 lead.
- The Pios came out strong to begin the second period. Less than two minutes in, Zielinska fired a shot from near the blue line that was deflected in by Jussila, doubling the Pioneers' lead. As the period continued, both teams traded scoring chances, but Petruno and the defense, anchored by Olivia LaRoche, stood tall. Sacred Heart successfully killed off two power-play opportunities to maintain control. The Pioneers carried a 2–0 advantage into the third period.
- In the third period, the Pios were presented with several opportunities, including a 5-on-3 advantage, but were unable to capitalize. Nine minutes into the frame, Post found the back of the net to cut the deficit in half. The Eagles continued to apply pressure, firing multiple shots on Petruno. With just under four minutes remaining, Post struck again to even the score. With the game suddenly tied, overtime was needed to determine a winner.
- The overtime period didn't last very long. Just one minute into the overtime, Cohen found the back of the net for the game winner.
