Men's Track and Field Finish Second Overall at the Southern Connecticut State Univ. Wilton Wright Invitational

Multiple podium fInishes lead the way
New Haven, Conn – The Sacred Heart University men's track and field team had an overall second-place finish at the Southern Connecticut State University Wilton Wright Invitational on Friday afternoon.
The Pioneers opened competition in the hammer throw with a dominant showing. Tyler Durang secured a first-place finish with a throw of 56.20m, nearly two meters farther than the second-place finisher. Joshua Wood followed with a strong performance of his own, placing third overall with a mark of 53.19m. Together, the two Pios gained 16 points towards the team total.
Samuel Madden added another first-place finish for the Pioneers in the high jump, clearing 1.90m to earn ten valuable points. Francisco Amore followed with a first-place finish of his own in the pole vault, continuing his strong season with a mark of 4.70m and adding another ten points for the Pioneers.
On the track side, Ryan Jaipaul added five points for the Pioneers in the 800m, finishing fourth overall with a time of 1:58.51. In the 400m, Matthew Papajohn contributed four more points, placing fifth with a time of 49.91 seconds.
The Pioneers ended the day in the 4x400m relay. Jaipaul, Samuel Graham, Dylan Peterson, and Jacob Strain earned a second-place finish after finishing the relay in 3:29.79, earning eight points.

The Pioneers will return to action next weekend, competing on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19 at the 50th ECAC Division I Women's & 149th IC4A Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Events are set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
