High School: Croom lettered in football and track at Lawton Chiles High School. He served as team captain as a senior and earned 3.0 Honor Roll recognition.
Personal: Croom is the son of Kywana and Jarrod Lawson and has two younger siblings; Jamielle and Javien Lawson. At least two relatives have excelled athletically, with Jarrod Lawson running track at Florida State University and Jayson Jones qualifying for the Olympics on two occasions.
