Final Stats
POTSDAM, NY (November 1, 2003) - The Pioneers men's ice hockey
team fell at Clarkson 4-1 as Sacred Heart fell to 0-4-0 on the
season. Tristan Lush scored what would be the game-winning goal
while shorthanded just 1:25 into the second period.
After a scoreless first period by both team the Golden Knights
got things going quickly in the second period with two shorthanded
goals in a 40 second span. Chris Blight opened the scoring 45
seconds into the period from Matt Nickerson. Lush would make it a
2-0 game shortly after being set up by Rob McFeeters and Chris
Brekelmans at 1:25 of the second period. Both goal were scored
while shorthanded.
The Pioneers would cut the Golden Knights lead in half when Marc-Andre
Fournier (St. Nicholas, QC) scored his second goal of the
season on the power play from fellow senior Konn Hawkes (Watrous,
SK) at 13:44 of the second period. The assist was the first of the
season for Hawkes, who was also making his 2003-04 debut.
Clarkson would strike early again to start the third period as
Mac Faulkner scored 50 seconds into the final frame. He was
assisted by Nickerson and Blight. Faulkner would close out the
scoring with his seond goal of the game and fifth of the season at
6:00 from McFetters and Nickerson. Both goals were scored on the
power play.
Dan Weinrieb stopped 25 of 26 shots on goal in recording the win
for the Golden Knights. Pioneers junior goaltender Kevin LaPointe
(Quebec, QC) stopped 28 of 32 in taking his third loss of the
season.
The Pioneers will return to the ice on November 7-8 when they
travel to Quinnipiac for a weekend series. Both games begin at 7:00
PM.
