Stony Brook, NY - Freshman pitcher Jessica Paprella pitched a four-hit shutout in the second game, while sophomore Marissa Servello drove in four runs during the afternoon, to help Stony Brook University sweep a softball doubleheader from Sacred Heart University, 3-2 and 5-0, on Tuesday afternoon.
Stony Brook, now 8-13, got a pair of runs in the second inning of Sacred Heart starter Michele Walker (Paramus, NJ). After a walk and an error, Servello singled to left to score one run. Junior Stephanie McCarthy drove in the other with a two-out single to left.
Sacred Heart, 5-12, got the runs back in the bottom of the inning. Leslie Konsig (Millburn, NJ) walked to start the inning and scored when Walker followed with a double down the left field line. Freshman shortstop Jen Place (Latham, NY) scored Walker with a single to center.
The Seawolves got the winning run in the top of the fifth. Stony Brook loaded the bases with no one out and got a sacrifice fly from sophomore Stephanie DiBiase to score winning pitcher Angela Andrews with the go-ahead run.
Sophomore Kristin Brust gave Stony Brook the only run it would need in the second game with a solo homer to center in the top of the first, her sixth round tripper of the season. Servello gave the Seawolves a lot of insurance with a bases-clearing double in the third.
