ORLANDO, FL - The Sacred Heart University softball team finished the Rebel Games with six losses and fell to 3-7 on the season. The team was competitive in a number of the losses and were able to take away several positive notes from the trip.
After a 13-1 loss at the hands of Providence the team took a 3-2 lead against St. Bonaventure before the Bonnies regained the lead for good with a four run bottom of the fourth inning.
The next day the Pioneers lost a heart breaker to Niagara 6-5. SHU took a 5-3 lead in the top half of the sixth inning, but the Purple Eagles tied the game in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 5-5 game. Sacred heart was unable to score in the top of the seventh and Niagara took advantage as they plated the game-winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The team has gotten outstanding performances out of two freshmen so far this season. Caitlin Carroll (Los Alamitos, CA) is batting .385 with seven RBI and four doubles on the season. Bethany Lemenager (New Bedford, MA) won the first game of her collegiate career in her first collegiate start after going the full seven innings in a 10-5 win over Holy Cross.
