Final Stats

FAIRFIELD, CT (April 9, 2006) - Monmouth got five points from Katie Degen and Kristin Ray as the Hawks outscored Sacred Heart 8-3 in the second half to post a 15-8 win Sunday afternoon, remaining perfect in the Northeast Conference at 5-0 while the Pioneers fall to 3-1. The Hawks scored the last five goals of the game to pull away after leading 7-5 at the half.

Monmouth (7-6, 5-0 NEC) struck first taking the opening draw with Degen scoring unassisted just 12 seconds in. The Pioneers responded as senior Emily Tully (South Windsor, CT) answered off a feed from junior Heather Gureckis (Nashua, NH) 55 seconds in.

The Hawks rattled off a four-goal run over the next 10 minutes to take a 5-1 lead. Four different Hawks scored on the run. The Pioneers halted the rally at 12:53 as freshman Mary Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY) scored unassisted. Gureckis also found the back of the net unassisted at 17:08 to pull the Pioneer to within 5-3. MU's Kate Hanna scored a free-position goal at 19:41 and the two teams traded goals for the rest of the half capped by a SHU marker from Brianna Bubeck (Bethlehem, NY) with 29 seconds left in the half.

Monmouth scored twice to open the second half as Jeanette Stott scored from the free-position three minutes in and then set up Degen at 36:35 for a 9-5 lead. SHU's Montesarchio threaded a perfect pass to a cutting Amanda Williams (Monroe, CT) who got the Pioneers on the board in the second half with just over 11 minutes gone. Monmouth's Ray pushed the lead back to four, 10-6, with a tally from Megan Nutter at 36:57.

Sacred Heart (3-9, 3-1 NEC) pulled back within two, 10-8, as Williams scored her second goal from Montesarchio and Bubeck added an unassisted marker at 37:52 and 38:24, respectively. But that would it for the Pioneer offense as the Hawks pulled away.

MU's Carolyn Raveia registered back-to-back scores followed by Erica Evangelisti, Stott and Ray to close it out for the 15-8 win. Degen and Ray finished with three goals and two assists each while Stott had three markers and an assist in the win. Both Riveia and Evangelisti had two goals apiece. Monica Johnson made 10 saves in goal to earn the win.

SHU's Gureckis and Montesarchio had a goal and two assists each while Bubeck and Williams each had a pair of scores. Senior Candice Celebre (Lake Grove, NY) made 15 saves in goal.

The Pioneers return to action on Thursday, April 13th when they travel to Robert Morris for a 1:00 pm start.
