10/31/2010 12:00:00 AM | Men's Soccer
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Senior midfielder Lusiano Dadario (East Haven, Conn.) and Sergio Freitas (Edison, N.J.) powered the Sacred Heart University men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Bryant on Campus Field, Sunday afternoon. Each senior recorded a goal in the first half to improve to 11-5-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the Northeast Conference.
The win marked the first time in Sacred Heart's Division I history that the Pioneers have surpassed 10 wins in one season.
Dadario scored the first goal of the game as sophomore Brian Francolini (Ellington, Conn.) lifted a ball over the top for Dadario to go in on a breakaway for the score. Freitas added to the scoring when sophomore defender Marcello Castro (Parana, Brazil) fired a free kick from beyond the midfield line into the Bryant box. Freitas fielded the ball in traffic and tallied a score into the right side of the net.
For the Bulldogs (4-10-2, 2-6-2), senior Victor Tutino made four saves, but was sent off after receiving his second yellow card, in the 78th minute. Both yellow cards came as a result of Tutino illegally handling the ball out of the box. SHU senior goalkeeper Tyler Locatell (Goshen, N.Y.) earned a shutout in the first start of his career by making a pair of saves.
Sacred Heart outshot Bryant 13-7 for the game.
The Pioneers return t action in their regular season finale at Fairleigh Dickinson at 7:00 pm on November 6.
