Sacred Heart Wins the UConn Invitational

ELLINGTON, CT (October 11, 2011) - The Sacred Heart men's golf team took home the team title at the Connecticut Cup hosted by UConn on Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers led after day one held on for a one-stroke victory over the University of Rhode Island on Tuesday at the Ellington Ridge Country Club.
The Pioneers posted a team score of 882 to edge out the Rams by a single stroke and the host Huskies bu four strokes. SHU had a pair of golfers finish in the top-10 to lead the way to the trophy.
Senior Joseph Serrantino (Cromwell, CT) was SHU's top-golfer, finishing tied for fourth shooting a 217 over the three round event. On Monday, Serrantino fired back-to-back rounds of 70 and 72 and carded a 75 on Tuesday.
Fellow senior Leopoldo Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) finished a stroke back of Serrantino, tying for sixth overall. Garcia shot a 70 over his first 18-holes and matching rounds of 73 over his next 36-holes to finish at 218. Junior Josh Salah (Gloucester, MA) finished tied for 18th overall but posted the low-round of the tournament with a 67 on Monday afternoon.
The win rounds out the Pioneers fall portion of the schedule.
