Pioneers Place 12th At Connecticut Cup

ELLINGTON, Conn. – After its best team round of the Connecticut Cup Tuesday at Ellington Ridge Country Club, the Sacred Heart men's golf team finished the tournament in 12^th place.

The Pioneers wrapped up the second round Tuesday morning with a team score of 311 for a two-round total of 621, which put them in 12^th place heading into the final round. Will Smittle (Scarsdale, N.Y.) was Sacred Heart's low scorer on Tuesday with a two-over 74, improving by four strokes over his second round. Smittle finished the tournament tied for 36^th. Both Sam Barber (North Bay, Ontario) and Ross Kronberg (New Canaan, Conn.) posted final round 78s to finish the tournament in a tie for 46^th. Jeff Cohen (Windham, N.H.) rounded out the Pioneers' scoring group, carding a 76 on Tuesday to finish tied for 53^rd.

Sacred Heart had its best round of the tournament Tuesday afternoon with a team score of 306. The Pioneers finished the tournament three strokes behind 11^th place LIU Brooklyn. Connecticut won the tournament by eight strokes over Hartford, with Rhode Island, Bryant, and Central Connecticut rounding out the top five.

The Pioneers wrap up the fall with the SHU Golf Classic Oct. 20-21 at Great River Golf Club in Milford, Conn.
