Men's Tennis Splits Doubleheader

STORRS, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's tennis team opened its dual season bouncing back from losing its opening match of a doubleheader to UConn by defeating Hartford, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon. Brian Power led SHU with three wins over the two matches.

Anthony Savio sealed the SHU victory over Hartford with a three set victory at fourth singles. Splitting the first two sets by identical scores of 6-2, Savio rebounded from a second set loss with a 6-1 third set triumph.

Power and Derek Chapman both won in straight sets in their respective singles matches to help the Pioneers to the victory. Power cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at first singles, while Chapman was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at third singles.

Power helped Sacred Heart position itself to take control of the match with a win in doubles. Power teamed with Matt Dean for a 6-3 victory at first doubles, while Cory Seltman and Karan Narula paired for a 6-4 decision at third doubles.

It was the second doubles win of the day for Power and Dean, as they were the lone winners in the early match against UConn. Again playing at first singles, the two were 6-4 victors.

SHU plays its first home match of the 2015-16 season next Sunday at noon against Siena. The match is the makeup date of an October 4 postponement.
