
Pioneers In Fifth Place After Second Round Of NEC Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Sacred Heart women's golf team finished the second round of the Northeast Conference Championship at LPGA International in fifth place Saturday. Sophomore Ellen Nighbor (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) moved into third place individually with a round of 75.
Nighbor improved by two strokes Saturday after posting a round of 77 Friday. The sophomore birdied the ninth hole to cap a front nine of +1 37. She then was +2 on the back nine for a round of three-over. Nighbor is at +8 for the tournament, two strokes behind Wagner's Noelle Maertz for second place. Taylar Jaramillo of Saint Francis U is the individual leader of the tournament at +3.
Abigail Hood (Gloucester, Mass.) stayed in the top-10 Saturday after posting a round of 83. She is part of a group tied for eighth at +14. Kelsey Hayward (Seekonk, Mass.) improved by three strokes Saturday with a round of 79, putting her 18th individually at +17. Alejandra Perez (Zaragoza, Spain) rounded out the scoring group with a round of 83. She is 23rd individually at +25 for the tournament.
Sacred Heart was +32 as a team on Saturday, equaling its first round score. At +64 for the tournament, The Pioneers enter Sunday's final round one stroke behind fourth-place Saint Francis U. Wagner leads the tournament at +54, five strokes ahead of Fairleigh Dickinson.
The tournament concludes Sunday morning.
