Pioneers Blank Johnson And Wales For Weekend Sweep

The Sacred Heart University women's hockey completed a weekend sweep of Johnson & Wales University with a 2-0 win Saturday afternoon at the Rinks at Shelton. The win is the third in a row for the Pioneers, who are unbeaten in their last four outings.

The Pioneers (6-6-1) controlled play throughout, outshooting the Wildcats (4-9-0) 61-10 and not allowing more than four shots in a period.  Sarah Erban (Attleboro, Mass.) earned her second shutout of the year, making 10 saves on the afternoon.

Five different Pioneers tallied a point on the afternoon. Olivia Bryant (Lexington, Mass.) gave SHU the only goal it would need, netting a pass from Elizabeth Collins, 3:37 into the game. Taylor Moreland (Kenosha, Wisc.) scored 7:16 into the third period, with assists from Haley Payne (Braintree, Mass.) and Cassandra Hanlon (Rowley, Mass.).

The game was the finale of the first semester for the Pioneers. SHU returns to action in 2017, travelling to Southern Maine on January 3 and 4 for a two-game set.
